Getting a new entertainment space in Reading
I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a party where we lacked space. I decided to look near Reading Station.
I found the site while scrolling and sent photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens responded with a price that felt fair for the work.
The journey of organising this renovation was honestly quite detailed. I dedicated several days thinking on the configuration of the room before ever choosing up the phone. My lounge area has always felt slightly incomplete, and owning a proper area for drinks seemed like the perfect fix to that problem. I remember sitting in my hallway looking at a cluttered countertop covered with glassware and feeling that something had to shift. The initial conversation with the team was very straightforward, which provided me assurance. We talked different aesthetics, from modern minimalist designs to more classic and wooden finishes. I was quite impressed by how many detail they wanted regarding the dimensions and the existing interior of my house. It felt like they truly desired the final result to blend seamlessly with the balance of the property. I provided multiple views in the photos I uploaded, ensuring sure every corner was clear. They explained that the bespoke nature of the unit signified that accuracy was absolutely critical to avoid any problems during the installation. We went forth and forth on potential materials, looking at samples of laminate and different kinds of wood grain. It is amazing how much consideration goes into picking the correct hardware, like pulls and copyrights, which could completely alter the vibe of the entire construction. I needed a place where I could comfortably prepare cocktails for guests without needing to repeatedly run back to the pantry for lemons or tools. The ease of possessing everything in one place was the primary reason for this purchase. We settled the design following a short consultation where every one of my concerns about wiring and lighting sockets were answered. I liked that they didn't rush the planning stage, spending the time to ensure that the depth of the shelving was sufficient for my tallest glassware. It felt like a joint process rather than a standard transaction, which is rare to locate these days.
The installation date arrived faster than anticipated, and the fitter was on time and ready. He started by laying down safety covers to make sure my carpet remained clean. Watching the parts being unloaded was interesting, as the standard of the materials was immediately obvious. He meticulously checked the levels of the floor before attaching the base structure of the bar. I watched as the skeleton slowly gained shape, changing a plain corner into a practical piece. The degree of craftsmanship required in scribing the panels to the uneven walls of my period house was notable. He explained why each piece fitted in to provide maximum stability. We wasted a bit of duration choosing on the final position for the integrated cooler, making sure it was easy to reach but hidden away from main view. The fitting of the counter was the highly rewarding moment of the entire day. Seeing the smooth surface finally resting on the cabinets helped the project feel to life. He next fitted the mirrored backing, which immediately made the space to feel double the size. The LEDs were wired afterward, and checking them for the first moment was a thrill. The soft glow underneath the racks highlighted the bottles beautifully. I was able bespoke home bar to visualise exactly how useful this might be during night parties. The worker was highly diligent, spending the time to wipe down each surface and clear any dust made during the drilling. He also showed me the way to adjust the shelves should I later wanted to store bigger items. The focus to detail was truly exceptional, straight down to the silicone beads around the joins. It was clear that he took immense satisfaction in his craft, which is consistently reassuring to witness. We did a last inspection of the completed installation to ensure everything was to standard. I noted that a single handle was slightly wobbly, and he fixed it immediately with a quick twist of a screwdriver. This diligence is just what I was hoping for when I booked the job.
The finished area looks absolutely stunning and has turned into the focal feature of my downstairs. It provides a sophisticated vibe that was previously lacking from my reception space. The storage is huge, allowing me to sort all my spirits, sodas, and fancy glassware in a cohesive unit. No more do I have to search through cluttered kitchen shelves to locate a bottle opener or a specific type of glass. Everything has its rightful place, which makes hosting much much easier and relaxing. I enjoy the way the materials catch the light in the evenings, making a warm ambience. My friends have now complimented the design multiple times, with some even inquiring for the contact of the people who made it. It really feels like a bespoke extra made exactly for my lifestyle. The elevation of the countertop is ideal for leaning by with a drink, and the integrated lighting strips provide just the correct amount of illumination without being too bright. Even when not in operation, it serves as a lovely item of cabinetry that lifts the entire look of the property. I used a bit effort arranging my bottles on the racks to make a visual arrangement. The mirrored back truly help in displaying the bottles and giving depth to the small alcove. It has inspired me to try creating different drinks that I previously felt were too fussy to attempt in a normal setting. Having the sink nearby might have been good, but the area constraints meant we opted without it to save cabinet room. This was a conscious decision we made during the design stage, and I certainly not regret it. The extra drawer room for straws and accessories is much more useful to me in the run term.
There were a few of small drawbacks that are fair to noting for a balanced view. The wait time for the custom panels was a bit longer than I initially wanted. It lasted about eight weeks from the initial payment to the actual fitting date. While this is understandable for high-quality work, it required a some of patience on my end. I had hoped to have it finished for a specific event, but we passed that deadline by a week. However, the updates from the team about the progress were regular, so I was not kept in the dark. I would hold a bit more for a result that is built to last than receive a hasty work that fails after a couple months. The initial cost estimate was additionally slightly lower than the final bill, mainly because I decided to upgrade the hardware and include extra inside lights midway through the process. These adjustments were completely my decision, and the team was very clear about the additional fees required. Another small point was the volume of packaging remaining after the install. Although the worker tidied up the work area perfectly, there was a large amount of waste to get rid of in my bins. It was not a big problem, but something to keep in mind if you possess limited bin room. Despite these minor details, the total journey was very good. The standard of the finish is far superior to anything I could have bought off-the-shelf. It seems sturdy and durable, and I am sure it will handle decades of parties. I believe the value it has added to my home far outweighs the upfront cost. It has changed the way I use my downstairs space, rendering it much more social. I not longer sense cramped when people visit.
Thinking back on the entire experience, I am truly glad I opted forward with it. The first idea originated from a trip to a friend's house in Oxford, where they had a comparable setup. I realised then how greatly it improved the movement of the party. When I returned to Reading, I started researching nearby firms and found that going with a specialist provider was the only route to get the exact look I desired. The ability to pick each detail, from the colour of the paint to the position of the power sockets, made the end product was exactly as I pictured. I even got a tiny secret compartment built for storing valuable tools like fancy stirrers. This level of customisation is what makes the service unique. It did not seem like a mass-produced piece being forced into a space where it didn't belong. Instead, it looks like it has always been a segment of the house. If you are thinking about a similar domestic upgrade, my advice would be to be patient and invest the time on the design part. It is much easier to change a drawing than it is to modify a cabinet once it is built. The expertise provided during the beginning was crucial in stopping me from making simple mistakes, such as putting the cooler too near to a heat source. These small details of wisdom are what you pay for when you choose experienced experts. I am currently looking at other parts of my home to see where else I could add built-in solutions. The outcome of this fitted project has provided me the confidence to start a bigger task in the bedroom next year. It has been a great upgrade to my daily routine, and I view ahead to many years of using it with relatives and pals. Finding the right mix between looks and use was the aim, and I think we reached it completely. The journey from a cluttered corner to a stylish social point was well worth the effort and money required. I now possess a home that I am truly proud to show off to visitors. Reading has many great places to go for a drink, but honestly, I now prefer being at my place and enjoying my own personal bar. It provides the same atmosphere without the noise or the commute. That alone was worth the whole project. I am very happy with how the ambience works in the night, creating a relaxing space to relax after a long shift at the office. It is the small treats like this that make house living much pleasant and enjoyable. I really value the craft that went into the final result. The manner the doors shut with a silent thud tells volumes about the construction quality. No aspect was overlooked, and the total look is precisely what I needed it would be when I first started this adventure. It is a credit to the skill of the fitters and the quality of the materials utilised. I am a very happy client.
